R. J. Kinsella Magnet School of Performing Arts (PreK-8)

Today, Kinsella Magnet School staff engaged in a powerful professional learning session focused on play-based learning, a core component of the HOT Schools model. Titled "PLAY—A Very Serious Business at HOT Schools," the training was expertly led by veteran HOT Schools Teaching Artist Derron Wood and Victor Chiburis of Flock Theatre. The collaboration between the Kinsella team and these experienced artists provided educators with practical strategies and deep insights into integrating imaginative, focused play into their daily instruction. The session emphasized that play is not just fun, but a critical, rigorous business that fosters creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and a deeper engagement with the curriculum, equipping the staff with tools to create richer, more dynamic learning environments for their students.
